4 Tips for Getting Rid of Bad Breath

If you’re concerned about bad breath, then here are some tips on how to get rid of it.

As the holidays get closer, it’s easy to forget about your oral care routine. Even if you’re normally careful about how often you brush your teeth, floss, and use mouthwash, during the fun of the holidays you might not think about it. If you’re concerned about bad breath, then here are some tips on how to get rid of it.

Keep Brushing

Brushing your teeth is always your first line of defense against bad breath. When you brush your teeth, you’re eliminating the bacteria that hang around and feast on the bits of food residue that are left on your teeth, gums, and tongue. If your current toothbrush is more than three months old, it’s time to switch it out for another one – so if you’ve had it for four months, you’re probably overdue! Just make sure that the new one has softer bristles than the brush you had before.

Scrape Your Tongue

The next thing you should do is to scrape your tongue. Sometimes, this is easy enough to accomplish with your toothbrush. But keep an eye on what your tongue looks like – if it has turned any strange colors, this could be due to a buildup of bacteria. In that case, you might want to try using a tongue scraper to get the job done instead.

Avoid Smelly Foods

Garlic is delicious, but it also leaves a strong aftertaste – and it’s usually stinky! There are plenty of other foods and drinks that will leave your breath smelling less than minty fresh. Don’t drink too much alcohol, if at all. Also, it’s probably a good idea to minimize your consumption of onions, peppers, and as we mentioned before, garlic.

Stay Hydrated

It’s tempting to drink hot chocolate or apple cider or even eggnog when spending time with your family over the holidays. Feel free to enjoy these treats, but make sure you stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water will help you have as much fun as possible. It’s easy to get a dry mouth, and dry mouth is no fun. If you’ve been dealing with symptoms of dry mouth, ask your dentist what you should do.
