How to Deal with Burns in Your Mouth

How do you deal with burns in your mouth?

Pizza is a wonderful thing, but scalding hot pizza is an easy way to burn your mouth. For days afterwards you may think, “Why me?” This is all to say that burning your mouth is not fun. So how can you cope with this travesty? That’s what we’re going to be talking about today. Ready to take a look? Let’s do it!

Cool down your mouth!

The best way to keep your mouth free of burns is to wait for your food or drinks to cool. However, sometimes we don’t realize how hot something is until it burns us. So, let’s assume you’ve already burned your mouth. The first thing you need to do is cool it down. Using some cold water, rinse your mouth out for about five minutes, or at least until the pain subsides. Once you’ve done that, you should think about keeping your new burn clean. A burn, after all, is a type of wound. It needs to be cared for unless you’re looking for infection, and no one is.

Keep your mouth clean!

When you have burns in your mouth, it is very important that you keep the area clean and free of infection. An easy way to help prevent infection in your mouth is to gargle with salt water a few times a day. It’s one of the oldest remedies and it still works. You should also make sure that you are brushing your teeth regularly as well as using ample mouthwash. The cleaner your mouth is, the less likely you are to develop more problems down the line.

Wait for the burns in your mouth to heal.

Once the pain subsides and you are making sure to keep everything pristine, the only thing to do is wait. In a few days, if all goes well, you should be back to your normal self. Be careful with that pizza next time!
