Keep Your Kids’ Teeth Healthy this Summer

Keep Your Kids’ Teeth Healthy this Summer

Between sports camps and late nights, it can be difficult to get your kids to eat right and practice good oral hygiene.

Can you believe summer is more than half over already? Between sports camps and late nights, it can be difficult to get your kids to eat right and practice good oral hygiene. With all of those activities going on, keeping healthy teeth can get put on the back burner. Fortunately, avoiding nasty dental surprises is super easy!

Make Oral Hygiene a Priority

Brush twice a day and floss at least once a day. These are the easiest and most important steps you can take to keep your teeth healthy. Between vacations, camp, and day after day at the pool, make sure your kids are brushing and flossing every day.

Summer is a great time to replace your family’s old tooth brushes, and while you’re at it, you can purchase travel toothbrushes and toothpaste for on-the-go. If you or your kids don’t really want to keep a toothbrush and toothpaste with them, stock up on the single-use, disposable toothbrushes. They are small and portable, and the toothpaste is included! All you need to do is brush!

Keep Up with those Check-Ups

A lot of parents try to schedule dental visits toward the end of the summer, so that their kids have a clean bill of health to go back to school. Really, they should schedule that visit for right after school ends. No one should have to spend their summer vacation with a toothache!

Stock Your Kitchen with Healthy Foods

During summer vacation, sometimes kids are home all day. Stocking up on healthy foods will help them avoid the sugary sweets they tend to gravitate toward. One of the easiest ways to do this is to go to your local farmer’s market. There you will find a wide variety of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. It’s much better for kids to snack on strawberries and blueberries than candy and cookies. It is also a good idea to ditch the sugary, acidic soft drinks and drink water instead.
